The Legacy

Khichdi has a storied history, dating back to the times of Alexander the Great. Ancient texts and historical accounts, including those of Megasthenes, the Greek ambassador to Chandragupta Maurya, mention the widespread enjoyment of this rice-and-pulses dish. The mighty Rajwadas and Mughal emperors like Akbar were known for their fondness for Khichdi, embedding it deeply in India’s culinary traditions.

Founded in 2019 by Vikas Rathod and Alpesh Mehta, The Matka Khichdi reinvents this humble dish with a modern twist. Our founders, with extensive experience in sales, marketing, branding, and consumer relations, have developed over 30 unique varieties of Khichdi, each incorporating flavors and ingredients from diverse cuisines.
